Gadsby Hymnal Index

A selection of hymns for public worship was compiled by William Gadsby, a minister of the Gospel Standard Strict Baptists, in England. This hymn book was first published in 1814 in Manchester and contains 1156 hymns (words only) by authors such as Gadsby, August M. Toplady, Isaac Watts, Joseph Hart, John Cennick, John Newton, John Berridge, and William Cowper. The esteemed collection of 1,156 hymns are rich in theological content and many cannot be found in any other current hymnal. Our church uses the Gadsby as a companion to the Trinity Hymnal and have found its hymns to be very useful for encouragement and edification.

Since the Gadsby contains only the words for the hymns and not the musical score, they must be sung to the tune of other familiar hymns. One of our dear saints has taken the time to index each of the Gadsby's hymns to an appropriate hymn from the Trinity. She has graciously agreed to make this work available to others. It may be purchased for the cost of $10 spiral bound or $15 loose leaf a copy. Sheet music for each tune is included.
